State Security officials in Liaoning province are investigating a Canadian couple, suspected of stealing state secrets.

Xinhua news agency identified the two as Kevin Garratt and Julia Dawn Garratt. The Foreign Ministry has said the couple is suspected of collecting military and intelligence materials endangering national security.

The couple has been living in China since 1984, and opened a coffee shop in Dandong, a key gateway to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in 2008. The couple previously worked as teachers in southern China.
