 1. The US and five Arab allies began airstrikes on parts of Syria Monday night, targeting territory controlled by the Islamic State militant group. The strikes are attempting to compromise the infrastructure of the group which has captured large swaths of territory in northern Iraq and Syria. 

 
2. Israeli military says it shot down a Syrian aircraft. The military says the plane flew into Israeli airspace in the Golan Heights border region before being hit by the Patriot Air Defense System. It’s unclear what may have happened to the pilot. 
 
3. In New Jersey, officials are calling it the first fatal bear attack in the state’s history. A 22-year-old college student was killed over the weekend after he and four friends ran from the animal. Officials say the bear was probably looking for food. 
 
4. In Niagara Falls, three missing officers from Afghanistan’s army are found trying to cross into Canada. Police say the three men were taking part in a training exercise at a base in Cape Cod Massachusetts when they ran away. Officials say the men never posed any safety threats.
