 Clive Palmer is defending his climate change deal with the government. The Palmer United Party has agreed to back the Coalition's direct action plan in exchange for several concessions. As part of the deal there'll be an eight-month investigation into an emissions trading scheme. Even though, the government remains opposed to the idea.

A top New South Wales surfer is recovering in hospital after being attacked by a shark last night. Twenty-year-old Ryan Hunt has posted a photo of his injury on Instagram. He was surfing at Wallaby Point north of New Castle when a shark grabbed his foot but he managed to shake it off.
