If you want a job that carries prestige, look down the block to the nearest firehouse. Firefighters ranked as the most prestigious occupation according to the latest Harris Interactive Poll. Almost two thirds of those polled said these everyday heroes deserved very great prestige for what they do. Doctors and nurses took the number 2 and 3 slots on the poll. Scientists came in fourth with more than half of people saying that profession was prestigious. And teachers ranked number five. Educators are also the recipients of another distinct honor in this poll. They're getting more popular all the time. Teachers have seen their praise ratings almost double since 1977. At the bottom of the prestigious professions list, real estate agents got top rankings by just 6% of respondents. Stockbrokers and business executives are also on the low-end of the prestige poll despite their rather hefty pay.
