Original or Extra Crispy, not exactly health fare, but it will soon be healthier at KFC. Fried in a better for you zero trans fat soybean oil.

Colonel Sanders would be very proud of us today. He's probably smiling down on us because we've found a solution that preserves all the finger licking good taste of KFC’s chicken but now with zero trans fat.

The announcement came just hours before a New York City Board of Health hearing. New York wants to be the first US city to ban restaurants from serving food containing trans fat. Health advocates say fast food needs to be reined in by lawmakers.

If we don’t act now, generations after us will wonder why we sat back and watched the diabetes and obesity epidemics and the poor health outcomes that come with them spread through our city.

Trans fat is so common that the FDA says most Americans eat 4.7 pounds of it a year. Health experts say contributing to obesity and clogged arteries. Consumer demand for more healthy fast food has led some burger chains like Wendy’s to transition to zero trans fat oil. But some consumers wonder if the switch means losing flavor.

I don’t believe the taste is still gonna be the same.

OK KFC says the lawsuit did not prompt the change. The transition should be complete by April of next year. Still containing trans fats though, KFC’s biscuits.

In Washington, I am Kyung Lah.

Crispy  =CRISP
also potato crisp: a thin round slice of potato that is fried until hard then dried and eaten cold. Crisps are sold in bags and have many different flavors.
