 You are watching ABC News 24. Hello, I’m Kumi Taguchi. The top stories were following. New Year’s Eve preparations are underway across Australia. More than a million people were expected to flock to vantage point surrounds Sydney Harbor to watch the iconic fireworks display. Tens of thousands are also heading to Adelaide. It would tark in Brisbane’s South Bank Parklands when in Melbourne, people are heading into the city to witness fireworks displayed from 21 launch points.

 
A plane that crashed off the southeast coast of Tasmania has been found at the bottom of the sea. Police say the body of the pilot and the passenger were found in the cockpit of the plane wreck. A recovery crew is attempting to hoist the wreckage from the seabed so the police divers can start collecting evidence. 
 
A Queensland woman has appeared in court charged with trying to kill two children at a house in Murray Field north of Brisbane. The 55-year-old cried and asked for cigarettes during the brief hearing at the Murichdoor Magistrates Court. Her bail hearing has been agenda to Monday. 
 
And bad weather has prevented divers from searching for the wreckage bodies and black boxes of Air Asia flight QZ8501. The plane plunged into the water on Sunday about 40 minutes into its flight from Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore. A hundred and sixty-two people were on board. Six bodies have been found so far.
