 A trough is triggering widespread heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms about southeast Queensland while a separate trough over New South Wales is causing showers, generally in the state’s southwest. The monsoon trough is generating thundery showers and some heavy ones over the tropics. Looking around the country now, showers right throughout Queensland with storms in the north and east. Warm and humid northerly winds.

 
Showers also in most of New South Wales. Storms for the east. Dry and cool in the west.
 
In Victoria, you can expect heavy rain and storms in the east, easing throughout the day. Cool with gusty southwesterly change in the west.
 
Areas of light rain and drizzle for Tasmania. Clearing in the state’s northeast. Warm northerly winds developing around the state during the day. 
 
A few light showers and drizzle along the coast of South Australia. Cool southerly winds throughout.
 
Over in the west, light rain and drizzle is forecast for the south of WA. Showers and storms in the state’s north.
 
And more showers and storms for the Top End in the Northern Territory. A cool southwesterly change will spread across the else.
 
Looking ahead to the forecast for the capital cities. Showers for Brisbane in the morning, mostly sunny in Sydney. Thunderstorms for Canberra. Mostly sunny in Melbourne. Clearing showers forecast for Hobart. Mostly sunny for Adelaide and Perth. And thunderstorms in Darwin.
