Study in birds for a living might sound like a cool job but it is not without logistical challenges for us land down animals. After several hundreds flights, the researchers have found that the birds did not seem to care about the drone's colour or approach speed. And the equipment can get it close as 13 feet to the birds without disturbing them, as long as they did not approach over their heads, a angle associated with predators. The study is in the Journal Biology Letters. All these high tech tools could be a boom to wild-life ecologists. But at the same time, you always have to assess the impact of technology you are using on animal welfare.
