3. The conservative Washington Times is calling for House Speaker Dennis Hastert to resign. The move follows Hastert's decision not to order an investigation into sexually explicit emails from now former Congressman Mark Foley to a former page. Hastert is brushing aside any suggestion of resignation.

4. Two Americans have won the Nobel Prize in physics: John Mather from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland and George Smoot from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. With the help of a NASA-launched satellite, the 2 were able to observe the universe in its early stages.
