Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in China this week for a three- day official visit. It's his first trip since being elected last year. Ahead of his visit, Modi spoke to Chinese media about what he thinks the trip means in regards to relations between China and India, and to the rest of the developing world.

"I have been anticipated my visit to China for a long time. President Xi and I have met each other three times within a year and have held extensive talks. I believe my trip to China will further deepen the friendship between China and India, and contribute to the sound relations among countries in Asia and all developing countries across the world. I have no doubt about it," Modi said.

Modi is scheduled to arrive in the ancient city of Xi'an, Shannxi province on Thursday to begin his visit. He'll be greeted by Chinese president Xi Jinping, and hold talks with him. Later he will travel to Beijing and Shanghai. Ahead of Modi's visit, the Indian Prime Minister has opened an account on Chinese social media site Weibo, and started interacting with Chinese people online. Officials say India will seek economic cooperation during Modi's visit, as part of efforts to boost local industry. New Delhi wants greater market access in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, I-T services and farm products.
