The Eastern Star capsized last week in bad weather, killing more than 400 people onboard. It was pulled by a tugboat to calmer waters around 10 km upstream from its accident site.

The Ministry of Transport says removing the ship from the edge of the main channel will also facilitate navigation on the Yangtze.

Families of the victims have meanwhile begun collecting the personal belongings of their loved ones at a funeral parlor in Jianli County in central China's Hubei Province.

Only 14 people survived the maritime disaster, with eight others still unaccounted for.
