CCTV9英语新闻:Alberta Premier praises first responders in Canada wildfire(在线收听

A Canadian official delegation visited the oil sands boomtown of Fort McMurray Monday. It was led by Alberta Premier Rachel Notley. She toured the area devastated by wildfires, praised first responders for their efforts, and vowed to rebuild lost structures.

“The fast action and the hard work and the dedication and the smarts of these first responders has, it appears, saved almost 90 percent of the city of Fort McMurray,” Notley said.

“I’ve told we’ve lost about 2,400 structures. We saved almost 25,000 including the hospital, municipal buildings and every functioning school.”

The most destructive Canadian wildfire in recent memory has ravaged more than 160,000 hectares of Alberta and moved enough far away from the evacuated town of 88,000 people.

When the delegation visited the town, Notley praised the first responders. She said 90 percent of Fort McMurray were saved because of their hard work. Nearly all of Fort McMurray’s residents escaped the fire safely.

Fort McMurray is the center of Canada’s oil sands region. About half of its crude output, 1 million barrels per day, has been taken offline.
