A Baltimore officer was acquitted Monday of an assault and other charges in the arrest of Friddie Gray. The judge in the non-jury trial concluded Edward Nero did not play a large role in Gray's arrest. Gray died from injuries suffered in the back of a police van.

A pair of bombings carried out by Islamic State militants killed at least 45 people in Yemen on Monday. Security officials say the bombers targeted young men seeking to join the army at a recruitment center and outside the home of an army commander.

President Barack Obama lifted the US embargo on selling arms to Vietnam during a visit to the country on Monday. Obama will spend the next 2 days speaking directly to the Vietnamese people and meeting with civil society groups and young entrepreneurs.

A rite of passage as members of the Naval Academy's class of 2019 climbed to 21-foot monument to mark the end of their freshman year. Students formed a human pyramid around the greased pole in order to replace the plebe cup on top with the midshipmen's cover.
