This is AP news minute. 

1. Snow and freezing rain made for a messy commute and closed hundreds of schools Monday as a winter storm pushed eastward. From New England to Detroit, snow packed roads canceled schools as residents dug out from their homes. 

2. Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell says that Russians are not our friends, condemning Russia's hacking of the democratic national committee, and saying senate intelligence committee will investigate. McConnell  made remarks as President-elect Donald Trump continues to downplay the CIA's confidential assessment of the Russian hack. 

3. Antonio Guterres on Monday addressed the general assembly after being sworn in as secretary of state of United Nations. The former U.N refugee chief takes over from Ban Ki-moon on January,1st. 

4. And the moose stranded in a partly frozen river in New Brunswick was rescued by Canadian firefighters. Fire department officials say the moose was led ashore, climbed the bank itself and left on its own.
