In their annual meeting in Singapore with the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund has voted to give increased voting shares to China, South Korea, Mexico, and Turkey. Some countries, including India, Argentina, Egypt, and Brazil, said that the new plan does not give them a fair share of voting rights. Another popular topic at the World Bank IMF meeting, the connection of aid to reduced corruption in countries receiving the aid, has been criticized by Britain, France, and Germany for decreasing aid to the poorer countries that need it most. World Bank executives accused British Development Secretary Hilary Benn of creating the controversy in order to increase his chances of becoming head of his country's Labour Party.
