Macau, a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China, had more gambling revenue in 2006 than the Las Vegas Strip, making it the biggest gambling center in the world. Located on China's south coast, Macau is only ten square miles in area, but while Las Vegas is in the middle of a desert, Macau is closer to a much greater population. It's the only place in China where gambling is legal, and it has become a popular travel destination for mainland Chinese. British entrepreneur Richard Branson is now planning to build a $3 billion casino in Macau, joining Vegas names Steve Wynn, the Las Vegas Sands, and the Mirage in having a Macau casino.
