The most scenic part of the road is an 8.3-kilometer section, which connects several small islands with eight bridges— the most spectacular being the Storseisundet Bridge (Google Map). When the bridge is viewed from a certain angle it looks like the road disappears into the sky.

The Atlantic Road has become one of Norway's most visited tourist destinations since it was completed back in 1989. Nearly 300,000 tourists visit the area every year between May and August. It has become very popular for filming car commercials too. So far more than ten car companies have used the road for their ads.

County Road 64 is known for harsh weather. Much of the road is over unprotected seas. The sea there can turn very dramatic during the North Atlantic storms that often hit the western coast.
