1. President Donald Trump fired FBI director James Comey on Tuesday, saying it was necessary to restore public trust and confidence in the nation’s top law enforcement agency. The White House said the search for new FBI director was beginning immediately.

2. Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis says the US is working its allies to retake the Syrian city of Raqqa from the Islamic State group. The Trump administration also announced it will arm Syria’s Kurdish fighters despite opposition from NATO ally Turkey. 

3. South Korea has elected a new President. Moon Jae-in, a former human rights lawyer, favors closer ties with North Korea. He will lead a nation still shaken by a corruption scandal that brought down his predecessor. 

4. Capitalism on full display in the heart of Cuba, a new luxury mall has opened in Havana. The mall is attracting tourists and locals, but few Cuban residents can afford the expensive items.
