Florida Governor Rick Scott says there is devastation in the Keys and hopes everyone who stayed behind survived Irma. This comes after Scott flew over the area Monday and saw a lot of flood damage, overturned mobile homes and boats that had washed ashore.

Cuban state media is reporting 10 deaths following hurricane Irma despite the country's usually rigorous disaster preparations. More than a million were evacuated from flood-prone areas as the storm pounded the island for two days.

President Donald Trump marked the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks by pledging to never ever forget the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives. In New York, the traditional commemoration ceremony began with a moment of silence at 8:46 am, in observance of the exact time the first hijacked airplane struck the North Tower.

And some students in Houston, Texas are finally starting their new school year following a two-week delay because of the damage from hurricane Harvey. Another round of children will go back next Monday, starting off in a temporary school building until their severely damaged one reopens at the end of September.
