Israel and Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip have agreed to an Egyptian proposal for a long-term ceasefire.

The truce is ending seven weeks of fighting leaving more than 2,100 people — mostly Palestinians — dead.

Hamas says the deal represents a "victory for the resistance".

According to Palestinian officials, Israel has agreed to open border crossings into Gaza to allow the flow of humanitarian aid and re-construction material.

At the same time, another round of negotiations are set to be held in Cairo in a month to discuss a number of unresolved issues.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the truce, urging the two sides to tackle the root causes of the crisis.

The World Health Organization is temporarily pulling back its health workers from an Ebola hot zone in Sierra Leone.

This comes after one of its health workers became infected with the virus.

This is the first time a WHO worker has become infected with Ebola.

More than 240 health care workers have been infected since the Ebola outbreak began in March in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Over 14-hundred people have died since the current outbreak first began.
