2014年CRI 中国碳排放2030年达峰值 外交部要求菲立即释放中国渔民(在线收听

The Chinese government has issued a new promise to honor its commitments to cap its carbon-emission growth by 2030.

The pledge has been made as a Chinese delegation prepares to head to a UN climate conference in Peru next week.

The UN Climate Conference in Lima comes on the heels of China and the US reaching a major agreement on climate change at the APEC Summit in Beijing earlier this month.

As part of that deal, the Chinese side has agreed to cap its carbon-emission growth by 2030, on top of generating one-fifth of its power through renewable sources by that same time.

The Chinese Government is calling on the authorities in the Philippines for the immediate release of 9 Chinese fishermen who have been convicted of poaching in the South China Sea.

A spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign ministry says the Philippines seized the Chinese fishing boats illegally around the waters in the Nansha island area.

The Chinese government calls the Philippine side to release the fishermen and their fishing boats without condition.

The 9 Chinese fishermen were convicted on Monday and face fines of over 100-thousand US dollars each.

A failure to pay the fine means the group will have to stay in jail in the western Philippines until May.
