Chinese President has met with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as part of the first day of his state visit to the country.

The two have overseen the signing of over 50 cooperative deals, covering areas such as infrastructure, energy and agriculture, among others.

The deals mainly involve the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

In a joint statement, the two have also agreed to set a target of raising bilateral trade to 20 billion U.S. dollars over the next 3-years.

Two-way trade between two countries exceeded 16-billion U.S. dollars last year.

Xi Jinping's two-day visit to Pakistan is his first trip to the country since taking office in 2013.

Chinese lawmakers are bringing in tougher regulations connected to the use of pesticides.

The use of highly-toxic pesticides is being addressed in changes to the country's Food Safety Law.

Authorities say the plan will increase supervision over the use of highly-toxic pesticides, with officials conceding a full ban is unrealistic at this point.

The draft does ban the use of highly toxic pesticides for crops involving vegetables, fruit, tea and medicinal herbs.

At the same time, the draft also calls for more support for the use of pesticides with low toxicity.
