　　Down in a green and shady bed, 翠绿幽深的谷底，

　　A modest violet grew; 生长着谦卑的紫罗兰；

　　Its stalk was bent, it hung its head, 它弯着腰，把头低，

　　As if to hide from view. 似是要躲避人们的视线。

　　And yet it was a lovely flower, 可它的花朵是多么可爱，

　　Its colors bright and fair; 颜色明艳又漂亮；

　　It might have graced a rosy bower 她本应在树荫下大放异彩，

　　Instead of hiding there. 而不是悄然躲藏。

　　Yet there it was content to bloom, 而她安于朴素色调的装扮，

　　In modest tints arrayed, 心甘情愿地开放；

　　And there it spread its sweet perfume, 默默地在阴影里面，

　　Within the silent shade. 吐露甜美的芬芳。

　　Then let me to the valley go, 那么让我去那山谷里，

　　This pretty flower to see; 去看看那美丽的紫罗兰花，

　　That I may also learn to grow 我也能向它学习，

　　In sweet humility. 怀着美好谦逊的心灵长大。
