A hearse carrying Senator John McCain's casket arrived at the north Phoenix baptist church for a public memorial service. Inside, he was eulogized as "a true American hero" and a terrible driver with a wicked sense of humor.

Mourners streamed into a Detroit church to pay their respects to Aretha Franklin. The viewing Thusday was held at New Bethel Baptist church, where the Queen of Soul got her start as a gospel singer.

At least eight people were injured Thursday when an explosion caused a section of roof to collapse at a Chicago water reclaimation plant. The cause of the explosion is not yet known.

Instead of catching fish, rats and other life, it's becoming increasingly popular for scientists to look for tiny bits of DNA the ceratures left behind: hair, scales and feather, in an effort to protect biodiversity. The genetic material can be detected hours, weeks or millennia later.
