[01:12.29]Although I was never much into sports, [01:15.44]I had a few friends who were, [01:17.64]and several were on the cross-country running team. [01:22.95]The course lay out for the cross-country track [01:25.36]took a meandering path around the school, [01:28.38]then out into the pastures around the school [01:31.12](with the permission of the farmers, of course). [01:34.36]One part of the course took the runners [01:36.64]past an immense old farmhouse, [01:39.22]abandoned and dilapidated on the crest of a hill [01:42.63]overlooking the school. [01:45.19]There were, of course, rumors that it was haunted, [01:48.96]but to my knowledge no one ever saw [01:52.29]or heard anything there. [01:54.93]It was just a big, old, spooky, abandoned house. [01:59.64]At times, [02:00.64]the CC runners did see someone poking around there, [02:04.51]but it was obviously the owner of the property [02:07.48]as they would see his truck parked in front of the place, [02:11.71]and they could see that [02:12.91]he was using the downstairs rooms to store equipment [02:16.62]and surplus hay. [02:18.85]That being said, [02:20.53]I shall relate the story of my friend on the CC run, [02:23.89]and the subsequent discovery made by myself [02:26.88]and some intrepid companions one day... [02:31.31]Her name was Candy, and she was on the CC team. [02:35.42]She was hardly the star member, and would, [02:38.88]unfortunately, often find herself running alone. [02:43.23]That never dampened her spirits, [02:45.91]however, and she remained on the team doing her part. [02:50.17]One day, when as usual the pack had left her far behind, [02:54.74]she found herself alone [02:56.45]as she trudged up the hill towards the old house. [03:00.08]Glancing up, [03:00.97]she saw someone walk past an upstairs window. [03:05.04]She thought nothing of it, of course, [03:07.56]assuming it was the farmer.
