Syrian government troops have moved into towns and villages in northern Syria, setting up a potential clash with Turkish-led forces advancing in the area. The U.S. appears to be moving toward a full military withdrawal from Syria amid signs that Turkey's invasion could fuel a broader war.

The U.S. House panels leading the impeachment inquiry into president Donald Trump are expected to hear from Fiona Hill, a former National Security Council expert on Russia. Later this week, the committees will hear from a U.S. ambassador that his text message reassuring another envoy that there was no quid pro quo in their interactions with Ukraine was based solely on what Trump told him.

A white police officer who fatally shot a black woman inside her Texas home is set to be interviewed by investigators. Fort Worth police say officers responded early Saturday after a neighbor called a non-emergency line to report the home's front door had been left open. The responding officer fired a shot through the homes window, killing Atatiana Jeffersonl.

And the 2019 Nobel prize in economics was awarded on Monday to Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer for pioneering new ways to alleviate global poverty. Banerjee and Duflo, who are married, are at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Kremer is at Harvard University. The three have often worked together.
