Protesters in at least 4 cities in China have demonstrated outside branches of the French supermarket chain, Carrefour. They were angry at disruption to the Paris leg of Olympic torch relay by anti-China protesters and at what many see as French support for Tibetan independence. Our East Asia editor Steve Jackson reports.

"Carrefour is the most visible French presence in China and has been the focus of the campaign of anger since the chaotic torch procession in Paris. In eastern Chinese city of Hefei, a branch of the supermarket was blockaded by around 40 trucks. In Wuhan in central China, several hundred protesters marched through the streets, calling for a boycott of Carrefour. Many Chinese people were incensed by the actions of a free Tibet protester in Paris, who tried to snatch the Olympic torch from a female Chinese wheelchair athlete. France says it regrets the incident, Carrefour says it has no political role."

In Britain, hundreds of Chinese students protested in London and Manchester about what they say is "biased coverage of Tibet by the BBC".
