A new bill that allows local school boards in Kentucky the option of developing a class for students to understand the role the Bible played in American history has been signed by governor Matt Bevin after easily passing the state House and Senate.

The ACLU of Kentucky says it's concerned about how the courses would be implemented. State representative D.J. Johnson sponsored the bill and says the curriculum for the class, which is an elective, would be developed carefully, so there shouldn't be "constitutional issues."

The legislation is set to go into effect on Friday.

州代表D.J.
