The world bank has cut its growth forecast for the global economy this year to 2.4%.

In January, the world bank had predicted that growth would increase at 2.9%.

The bank says it's downgraded its outlook because advanced economies are rebounding more slowly than expected, and low commodity prices continue to hurt other countries.

The challenges for Australian retailers are mounting, according to Deloitte access economics which warns that growth in the retail sector is starting to slow.

Australian retailers have been warned to prepare for at least two years of subdued sales growth-driven by declining household incomes, lower house prices and weaker commodity prices.

Deloitte also warns that the record low interest rates which has fuelled sales growth so far is likely to fade.

According to their quarterly retail forecasts, retail sales will rise by by 2.4% his financial year-as compared with 3.3% in the previous year.
