The West Australian coroner has delivered a damning assessment of the treatment received by an aboriginal woman in custody. Ms Dhu, whose full name is not used for cultural reasons, died in August, 2014 from an infection after two days in custody at South Hedland police station.

The Commonwealth and Northern Territory governments have agreed to extend the Royal Commission into youth detention by four months. The new reporting date will be August the first, 2017. An interim report from the commission is expected to be delivered in March next year.

The White House has suggested that Russian president Vladimir Putin personally authorised the hacking of Democratic officials' email accounts in the run-up to the election. A spokesman for the Russian leader says the accusations are laughable nonsense.
