Police in Rio de Janeiro have arrested Brazilian man, Mario Marcelo Santoro over the alleged murder of his ex-girlfriend, Sydney woman Cecilia Haddad. Police in Brazil issued an arrest warrant for the 40 year old yesterday following high level negotiations. Santoro's accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend to death before dumping her body in the lane cover river in late April.

巴西男子马里奥·马塞洛·桑托罗因涉嫌谋杀叙利亚籍前女友塞西莉亚·哈达德，近日已被里约热内卢警方逮捕。昨天，在经过高级别协商之后，巴西警方对现年40岁的桑托罗发出逮捕令。桑托罗被控于4月末将前女友掐死并将其抛尸河中。

High level talks between the US and North Korea over the country's dismantling of its nuclear program have hit a snag. Pyongyang says a visit by US secretary of state Mike Pompeo had been "regrettable" and accused Washington of making "gangster-like" demands. The statement contradicts the version of events given by Mr Pompeo who says progress was made during his two-day visit.

In Japan at least 50 people have been killed and around five million have been ordered to evacuate following widespread flooding. Most of the deaths have occurred in the Hiroshima prefecture, which has been hit hard by three days of torrential rain and landslides.
