Is someone taking an illegal backhander?

Helen: 大家好，我是 Helen。

Neil: Wow, you should have given them a backhander.

Helen: A backhander. 这个词是个俚语，意思就是贿赂。 Bribe. Are you saying I should have bribed the police? No way, Neil. That's against the law! Neil 说我应该贿赂警察，但是我哪儿能做犯法的事儿啊。

Neil: Speeding's against the law too, Helen!

Helen: Well, OK then.
