访谈录 2008-04-19&4-21 我为自己建了一座岛屿(在线收听

Castaway like Robinson Crusoe and even Tom Hanks didn’t attempt to living in an exile. But this next guy did. * couldn’t find an island to call the zone he created an unbelievable floating paradise at of these.

This man has given up his job, his family and all of his material possessions to run away and live on a seclude island paradise. A paradise made from plastic bottles.

It’s taken me two and half years from the beginning for the first bottle collection to get this point now. And I’m quite happy with the progress.

It was over two years ago Richey Sora gave up job as copier and moved to Mexico in search of a simple life. He made this way to the sandy shore of Cancu. He started collecting bottles for cash and that’s what came up with an unbelievable idea----to build himself an island he could claim as his home.

“The collecting of the bottles I start by hand for just going around the local town picking the… “

“Have a great day.”

“Cheers. Thanks.”

This floating island is linked to a professional tennis court. Richey gathered thousands of bottles stored stuffing to create the foundation.

“But this is the * of three years’ work. It took me the first six months to get a base which was supposed, that’s about 50 meters across and about 20 meters long. It took me about four months to get a base around seven or eight meters then I started to put plans on.”

Richey plays bamboo and plywood on top of foundation of bottles, packing back for over and over every day scooping sand off the shore to build his own private beach. But the biggest challenge was trying to grow plants on the plastic bottle batch.

These mangos were planted just few months ago. And they are growing really, really well you could feel how. These mangos were planted alive for five months ago. They got stings on the trees, *trees. This is a lemon tree.

Today this realive survival is totally self-sufficient, growing for nanners, coconuts, spinach, omens and tomatoes on this island. He even also built a soul cooker, collets rain to water those plants. He even made a washing machine out of a classic drum that roves in the waves. This is one island castaway who never needs to leave. But it’s true be told Richey is not alone on this island.

“We have quite a few happens on the island the moment. It’s me, my cat, Boneytar, and my second cat, Easy, the little dog, Rainbow, two chickens, Brownian and Lucky, and the dog, the head of the island, Roresong.”

This bamboo island’s bottles have proved to be quite seaward well, surviving two hurricanes and several troublesome storms. And now even the Mexican government wants recognize the private paradise to claim the island as Mexican soil for tourists to visit. But Richey has another idea for his paradise. Every day he asks bamboo to make his island bigger. His goal is for one day out to see and eventually drift around the world on the island he build with his own two hands.

“One day, we’ll set out on the ocean and become a small floating country.”
