1. Chicago authorities are intensifying the search for the seven-year-old nephew of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson. A citywide AMBER Alert is in effect for Julian King, but officials are focusing on the immediate vicinity of Hudson's mother's home. Julian has been missing since Hudson's mother and brother were found shot to death on Friday.

2. Four high school cheerleaders died after their SUV collided with an oncoming car on a Tennessee highway. A passenger in the other car was also killed. A pregnant woman riding in that car lost her unborn child as a result of her injuries.

3. Heavy rain and strong wind force British officials to stop the Original Mountain Marathon after a Saturday morning start. Some twenty five hundred racers spent the night camped out in fields and shelters across the 50-mile course. But all have been accounted for. A dozen racers were treated from minor injuries and hypothermia.

4. Philippine pet owners added their own twist to Halloween at a Philippine Animal Welfare Society contest. About one hundred animals participated in the event. With the top prize going to an eight-year-old chow-chow named "Chuckie".

The Original Mountain Marathon (OMM), formerly known as The Karrimor International Mountain Marathon (or KIMM), is a 2-day Mountain event, held in a different region across the UK every year. It was first held in 1968 and continues today. Gerry Charnley, a skilled mountaineer and orienteer, designed the KIMM to test orienteering skills in extreme circumstances; the full-length KIMM course is a double-marathon length race. Each team must carry all their gear, including equipment for an overnight camp. Moreover, the course is not disclosed until the race begins, so each team must have good navigation skills. Some have called the KIMM the forerunner of modern adventure racing.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is a non-government institution situated in the Philippines. Its advocacies focus on the different issues concerning animal rights and welfare. PAWS is currently active, spreading its advocacies to the people by engaging in different rallies, bringing up massive campaigns to different companies and institutions, giving stray animals a new home, and organizing different activities like formal dinners for fund-raising. All of PAWS activities are for the welfare of both farm, and domestic animals.
