1. Embattled Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich tells the Associated Press he did nothing wrong and deserves a fair trial. Blagojevich is still refusing to be there or mount a defense at his impeachment trial. Illinois state senators could vote to oust him within a matter of days.

2. Winter weather is coating ice and snow on roads from the Plains to the mid-Atlantic states. Thousands of schools and businesses are closed as power lines freeze. At least seven deaths are blamed on the severe weather.

3. Violence flaring up again in Gaza. Palestinian militants detonated a bomb near an Israeli army patrol, killing one soldier. Israeli soldiers briefly crossed the border in search of the attackers. Hamas says one of its militants was wounded in an Israeli airstrike.

4. Doctors say the octuplets born to a Southern California mother are stable and breathing on their own. The mother whose name isn't being released gave birth by C-section to six boys and two girls.They were premature and weighed between 1 pound, 8 ounces, and 3 pounds, 4 ounces.
