1.Former Washington Governor Gary Locke is President Barack Obama's nominee for commerce secretary. He is the third pick for the cabinet post after two earlier choices dropped out. Obama said Locke is someone who shares his vision for turning around the country.

2.A Turkish Airlines jet plowed into a muddy field near Amsterdam's main airport as it tried to land. The two pilots and an apprentice pilot were among those killed. Dozens more were hurt, many seriously.

3.The long surviving gunman from the Mumbai attacks has been charged. The Pakistani man was charged with 12 crimes including murder and waging war against India. 164 people died during the three-day siege in November.

4.And in Washington it was a cash giveaway at Union Station. A company gave everyone who waited in line at least 50 dollars. In total, 50,000 dollars was given away to anyone who walked up and explained why they need the bailout.
