Hello everyone, I’m Creshon Saunders at the CNN.com newsroom in Atlanta, here’s a look at what’s happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

It was a well-kept political secret----who would be Barack Obama’s running mate? Now the cat's out of the bag. Barack Obama has named Senate colleague Delaware’s Joe Biden to share the top billing on the Democratic ticket. The 65 year-old Biden has a reputation as a foreign policy expert and as a scrappy campaigner. CNN’s John King scooped the competition and the campaign itself by hours when Democratic sources confirmed the decision.

Ten deaths in Florida are now blamed on Tropical Storm Fay. The storm is one for the record books. Typically storms make landfall and then leave within a day or two. Fay, though, has hit Florida four times already, today in a Panhandle area. The National Hurricane Center says it’s slowly moving west, authorities say the storm has damaged more than 15 hundred homes in Brevard County alone, dropping 25 inches of rain in Melbourne. It’s expected to dump up to 15 inches of rain in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.

Federal investigators are at the site of a plane crash outside Moab, Utah today. Officials say the small plane skidded then flat, fell flat to the ground while taking off.  It burst into flames. All ten people on board were killed, most were members of a medical team that flew in monthly to see patients in a remote area.

The widower of assassinated leader Benazir Bhutto will run for the Pakistani presidency. Asif Ali Zardari has accepted the nomination of his Pakistan People’s Party. Earlier this week, you may remember former president Pervez Musharaff stepped down amid the threat of impeachment.

A heart-warming story out of Argentina today. Police there say a dog rescued a newborn baby abandoned by his mother. The dog named China apparently found the baby boy in a field. Police think a young girl left the baby behind after she gave birth. China kept the baby with her litter of newborn puppies in 30 degree temperatures. After hearing the baby’s cries, someone called authorities. Police say if China had not taken care of the baby,  he would have died.

Those are the headlines this hour, for more on these stories and other news of the day, CNN is your source online, on TV, even when you are on the go.
