1.A solemn ceremony in Delaware has marked the end of nearly a two-decade ban on news coverage of returning US war dead. The remains of a Virginia airman killed in Afghanistan returned to Dover Air Force Base Sunday, the 20-minute ceremony was mostly silent.

2.Rescue workers are digging through the rubbles, searching for survivors after a strong earthquake hit central Italy. The quake has killed at least 20 people and struck about 70 miles from Rome. The Italian premier has declared a state of emergency.

3.2008 had the fewest number of highway deaths since the early 60s. Experts cite fewer miles driven, record seat belt use and tougher laws for the decrease.

4.The NCAA men's basketball championship will be decided tonight. North Carolina will take on Michigan State in Detroit. Earlier in the season, the same two teams played on the same court with North Carolina winning by 35 points.
