1. The spread of swine flu is prompting governments around the globe to take action. Cuba became the first country to impose a travel ban today by suspending flights to and from Mexico for 48 hours. This, even though the World Health Organization says such restrictions won't work.

2. Back in the US, the Los Angeles coroner's office is investigating the recent deaths of two men for links to swine flu. And a New York City official says many hundreds of students are sick at a school hit by the outbreak. The cases haven't yet been confirmed as swine flu.

3. In a stunning move, veteran Republican Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania switched parties. That leaves Democrats one seat shy of a 60-vote filibuster-resistant majority.

4. At a first glance, these beagles may look like typical dogs. But they glow red under ultraviolet light. Scientists made it happen by using cloning techniques that could help to develop cures for human diseases.
