Hello, everyone from the CNN Center here in Atlanta, I'm Catherine Callaway. So glad you are with us. Here's a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

The California State Supreme Court has decided to uphold Proposition 8--the ban on same sex marriage that California voters approved in November. And as for the 18,000 same sex couples who were married before the ban, their marriages will be allowed to stand.

President Obama formally announced his pick for Supreme Court justice. It is federal judge Sonia Sotomayor.

After completing this exhaustive process, I've decided to nominate an inspiring woman who I believe will make a great justice--Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the great state of New York.

If confirmed she will replace Justice David Souter who is retiring, she would also be the first Hispanic ever to serve on the high court.

Today is the deadline for General Motors to reach a deal with his bondholders. At issue, whether they will accept a much smaller stake in the company, that concession is considered unlikely yet essential to avoid bankruptcy. If GM can't restructure by Monday, it could be forced to file for bankruptcy.

There is something very different about the June 1st cover of the New Yorker Magazine. Take a look. The artwork was created entirely with an iPhone application. The artists do the cover using an app called Brushes and you can watch it come together in this time-lapse video that is from the magazine's website.
