2. The federal minimum wage jumps 70 cents today from 6.55 to 7.25 an hour. Proponents say the hike is long overdue. But some economists think the move could prolong the recession.

3. Michael Jackson's doctor has been named as the target of a manslaughter probe into the singer's death. Doctor Conrad Murray was with Jackson when he died. Police raided Murray's Houston clinic earlier this week.

4. NASA is planning an extra-long spacewalk today to give the space station more fresh batteries. Yesterday's was cut short because of rising carbon dioxide levels in an astronaut's suit. This will be the fourth spacewalk of the shuttle mission.
