1.Tropical Storm Claudette made landfall on the Florida Panhandle packing fifteen-mile-per-hour winds. It is now a tropical depression. Meanwhile Bill has become the Atlantic season's first hurricane.

2.Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is hospitalized after a suspect attacked him with a pipe. Barrett was trying to help a grandmother from being assaulted. A twenty-year-old man has been arrested.

3.American John Yettaw is undergoing medical tests in Thailand after being released from imprisonment in Myanmar over the weekend. Virginia Senator Jim Webb says Yettaw is not in good health.

4.The government says all those clunker trade-ins must be scrapped. And a car dealership in Oklahoma has found a unique way to do it--by crushing them with a monster truck. The government is shelling out three billion dollars to the program.
