Hello everyone, I'm Catherine Callaway at the CNN Center in Atlanta. So glad you with us. Here is a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Firefighters in California are fighting a tough battle against a fast-moving fire. Here is what they are up against in Rancho Palos Verdes. It sits about an hour south of Los Angeles. More than 1,500 people have been ordered out of the area. And there is no word on just how many buildings have already been damaged.

A new set of killings is rocking Virginia Tech. Authorities say they are now treating the deaths of two students as a double homicide. The bodies of 18-year-old Heidi Lynn Childs and 19-year-old David Lee Metzler were found in the nearby Jefferson National Forest. Both appeared to have been shot.

Michael Vick returned to the playing field Thursday night for a preseason game. And the famously fickle Philadelphia Eagles fans welcomed him with a standing ovation. The Eagles' quarterback was on the field for six first half plays. He completed all 4 his passes for 19 yards and even lined up a wide receiver for one play. The Eagles beat Jackson though on Thursday's pre-season game, the score, 33 to 32.

And in Atlanta, a man has been arrested after he jumped on to a school bus, uh, scantily clad and then overpowered the driver. They say he fought with a student who tried to take the wheel. The bus went flying down a hill with many of the dozen students onboard jumping out back of the bus. Eventually the bus crashed through a fence, and witnesses tackled the suspect. Here is what one witness had to say.

"Once he jumped off, we grabbed him. He slipped away from us and tried to get up under the bus. He had on some type of sweat pants; but he had pulled them down, and he was like he was driving the bus with his pants down."

Those are the headlines for you this hour. Stay with CNN for more on these stories and other news of the day.
