Michael wanted to furnish his living room. He had gainful employment, so last year, he set up a furniture fund. Now, it was the end of the year and they had the necessary funding to buy a new set of furniture.

However, Michael and his wife had different opinions about furniture. Michael liked functional coverings and he loved the color of fungi. His wife liked both fury and fuzzy furniture coverings. She liked metal furniture legs that looked like wires fused together. Michael didn’t like the fusion effect. He preferred wooden legs. They had such different ides that discussing their difference would have been a futile effort.

Today, Michael was at the furniture store. He didn’t bring his wife because he wanted to buy the furniture he liked. Bringing her would have just furthered their disagreement. He hoped to surprise her with the new furniture by having it delivered the following day. He was hoping that she would be pleasantly surprised and not furious at him.

When Michael arrived home, he was surprised to find his wife at the door. She made number of furtive movements that made Michael suspicious. She gabbled about having purchased something, then made him close his eyes and walk into the living room. “I hope you won’t gainsay the fact that I have a 50% right to furnish the house,” she said. “Now I have a surprise. Try to hold your fury, okay?”

“I have a surprise for you too,” Michael said. He thought for certain that she had bought her furry furniture. To his surprise, the furnishings she bought were exactly as he had wanted it. “Oops,” he murmured. “I should have bought her the furry furniture.”
