华尔街改革遭奥巴马谴责(在线收听

Now that President Obama’s whirlwind(旋风) visit to New York last night, he was actually here to raise money for the Democratic Party, but he used the trip to send a message to Wall Street. NBC’s Savannah Guthrie is at the White House this morning. Good morning, Savannah.

Good morning, Ellen, well, the President is gonna be in campaign(运动) mode again today. He will travel to New Jersey for a rally for New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine. And as you mentioned, he was on the fundraising circuit last night, a pair of lavish fundraisers in the New York City and the timing of that got some criticism because his aides of course have been blasting Wall Street for bonuses and about a third of the attendees there were from Wall Street. Well, the President decided to use the opportunity(机会) to send a message.

“So if there are members of the financial industry(金融业) in the audience today? I would ask that you join us in passing what are necessary reforms. Don’t fight them, join us on them.”

The White House has been angry because the financial industry is fighting regulatory reform. Later today, the President’s gonna announce some tax credits focusing on Main Street, trying to increase lending to small businesses. One more thing about those bonuses, Ellen, I talked to a Bank of America official the other day who said when we see these eye-popping figures, first of all, they are only projections and you should keep in mind, this is all of compensations. So what include? Salaries, wages, bonuses(奖金), health insurance, dental, all of those kinds of benefits anything that’s in perspective that we are all missing here. Nevertheless, the White House has really been blasting them for it.

All right Savannah Guthrie, thanks so much. (本文由在线英语听力室整理编辑)
