1. The outgoing president of Chile is asking for foreign help in dealing with what she calls a catastrophe of such unthinkable magnitude. The 8.8-magnitude quake struck early Saturday. The death toll has now topped 700. Half a million homes were either destroyed or badly damaged.

 

2. Nearly 200,000 homes and businesses in the Northeast remain without power after a slow-moving storm battered the region late last week. Winds up to 90 miles per hour brought down trees and power lines. Crews from as faraway as Michigan have been called in to help.

 

3. A festive crowd of 60,000 jammed into BC Place Stadium to bid farewell to the Vancouver Olympic Games. The home country was able to celebrate a record 14 gold medals. The United States captured the most overall medals with 37.

 

4. The final medal game out of the Games may have come with the most drama. The Canadian hockey team beat the US team in sudden death overtime to capture the gold. The US tied the game with under 30 seconds left in regulation. But Sidney Crosby netted the game-winner, beating tournament MVP Ryan Miller 7:40 into overtime.
