1. The downtown area of the US border city of Calexico remains shut down after a powerful earthquake rattled southern California and Mexico. The 7.2-magnitude quake killed at least two and injured at least 100 more. The quake was felt as far away as Las Vegas.

2. More than 100 Chinese miners have been pulled out alive after being rescued from a flooded shaft. The miners had been trapped for more than a week. The rescue is broadcast on national television.

3. The space shuttle Discovery is on its way to the International Space Station. Discovery and seven astronauts blast off this morning. They will deliver supplies and experiments to keep the station running long after the shuttles retire later this year.

4. Tiger Woods is back at Augusta National. The world's No.1 golfer quietly made his first appearance yesterday as he prepares for the masters. Tiger will answer questions on the media later this afternoon.
