The years may have gone by, but time has not eroded the honesty or the work ethic of James Jimmy Shaw. Jimmy turned 100, Thursday. He was born in Johnston, still lives in Johnston and works at his family owned Shaw’s Garage in Johnston.

There was nothing here. There were apple trees here when I put this here.

Jimmy started working at the shop 80 years ago, and now as proprietor and manager, he is still working there.

I do break, roll it, but that's all. I don't pull nor wrench it.

He's seen and fixed a lot of cars.

Daewoos, Bentleys, Volksmans, Grace, yeah, I know all of them, they're all old cars.

And he learned his trade the old fashion way trial and error.

Weekly fixed it, and didn't charge for what your time you'd spent as long as you fixed it.

When Jimmy Shaw took care of your automobile, it was taken care of.

One of ten brothers,he married just once, his late wife Margaret. As for his life's work, Shaw’s is still a family operation. Several relatives work there. Jimmy has two secrets to longevity.

One for long life. “I guess the main thing I smoke no cigarettes. ”

And one piece of advice for financial health. “If you were unguarded, don't get it, never mind the credit cards. ”
