OK. She has been around for 50 years always changing with the time so what is Barbie up to lately.

Well, something many parents are just not too happy with. In fact you could call the latest Barbie something of a rebel. Louisa Hoggin introduces us to totally styling tattoo Barbie, Louisa.

Donnie, in the past some have complained that Barbie dolls promote the idea that beauty is only skindeep, but now some are saying that what's showing up on this Barbie's skin is downright ugly.

Ah, yes, the familiar face of Barbie from the long hair to the pretty outfits to the tattoos?

I've never heard of a tattoo Barbie.

While many a wide-eyed kid has ogled(1) over the commercials for this tattoo Barbie.

I saw that on TV.

Meeting her in person well let's just say it's a friendship that's gonna stick.

I will bring it for sure in tow(2).

These stickers, tattoos!

But as much as this new Mattel toy is creating excitement it 's also getting some worked up(3).

I wouldn't buy this for my daughter.

I could see maybe some kids they see this and they might say you know, I want a tattoo.

But can totally styling Barbie really take kids from the innocence of a playground to the backroom of a tattoo studio to get some new ink?

Michael Hare, owner of The Exotic Body, says that even though you have to be 18 to get a tattoo, recently he’s been seeing an increase of minors(4) with home-made ink, as for Barbie leading to more of this behavior.

I don't think the kids that we're seeing with home-made tattoos play with Barbie, so I don't think that there is a direct correlation between the two.

Child psychiatrist Doctor James Margolis agrees.

The tattoos, they’re not offensive, they’re puppy dogs and stars. It doesn't have snakes and marijuana, cigarettes on it. I don't think Barbie sets fashions or or influences kids. I think it’s more the other way around.

But whether or not parents agree it's clear that Barbie continues to leave a permanent mark.

You know, Barbie has been around for 20, 30 years and this is Barbie in 2009.

Ten years ago, Mattel released butterfly art Barbie which was Barbie with a large butterfly tattoo covering her stomach, but due to parent complaints it was pulled from stores after only four months. The hope is that totally styling tattoo Barbie will have a much longer shelf life.

Well...
