China has condemned1 Japan for again trying to claim the Diaoyu Islands. The remarks come after Japan unveiled plans to revise middle and high school textbooks, in which the disputed islands will appear as the country's inherent territories.

Hua Chunying, Spokeswoman of Chinese Foreign Ministry.

"China has a clear and consistent position on the Diaoyu Islands: they belong to China. Japan’s past attempts to steal the Diaoyu Islands is clear. The essence of Japan’s words and deeds on the Diaoyu Islands is an attempt to rewrite history by denying its defeat in World War Two, to deny the international order that followed the war, and to challenge the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

We think no matter how the Japanese side attempts to lay claim on the Diaoyu Islands, it can not change the basic fact that they are China’s inherent territory. We also want to advise the Japanese government not to underestimate China’s unbreakable will and determination to safeguard its sovereignty.

If Japan dares to heighten its provocations3 on the territorial4 dispute, China will respond firmly and Japan will bear the consequences. I also want to say that history should not be forgotten.

Some Japanese can try and deny history, but they cannot escape its judgement. They can only laden5 themselves with heavier and heavier burdens. So we urge Japan to face up to history and correct their errors with concrete actions," said Hua Chunying, Spokeswoman of Chinese Foreign Ministry.
